Real or Fake?

Silk flowers have a bad rap. Let’s be honest when you think of a silk flower bouquet you think of something like this-

While not completely unfortunately this bouquett is screaming take me back to the 1980 and I frankly am not a fan. My opinion of the silk flower started to change at bridesmaid S recent wedding. Unfortunately I do not have any pics of S and her bridesmaid’s bouquet but believe when I said they were amazing.

During the planning of one of our mutual friend ST wedding S mentioned to her that she may want to consider silk flowers for her bridal and bridesmaid flowers. Choosing to go with silk flower would allow ST to show case flowers that would otherwise not be in season and would reduce the amount of prep that S would have to complete the evening before the wedding. ST choose the silk bouquets and just like S’s flowers hers were amazing.

I’m still not 100% sold on silk flowers my love for flowers run deep and I think I would miss the feel and smell of the real think. I’m going to talk to S this weekend when we meet and see what her and her mom can create for us out of silk maybe once I see a mock up I’ll be able to commit. What do you think silk or the real thing?

Flower Power

The first vendor we booked when we began planning our wedding was our florist. This isn't because I'm a flower obsessed bride or because we hired a super sought after florist (even though they are super talented and should be!). No, the reason why J and I hired our florist so early was because she happens to be one of our closest friend. My good friend S has spent the last 5 years working as a florist at her mother flower shop in downtown Riverside. S and her mother are some of the most creative and gifted women I have ever met, the art that they can create with is amazing.

Since I trust S and her mom I haven't spent much time looking for floral inspiration, so far all this is all I have for centerpiece inspiration.




This was the first flower arrangement that really caught my eye. I love the vintage modern feel of this wedding and the combo of sleek modern containers and vintage milk glass bud vase is to die for!

I love these white on white flower arrangements and those orchids are incredible.

Again I love the white flowers used in this arrangement, this time the use of on single flower really make a bold statement. I also am a big fan of the paper wrapped vase and think this may help extend our tiny budget.

J and I are scheduled to meet with S and her mom this coming weekend to discuss our flowers and I've been wondering if I should dig up some more inspiration pics. I love the pics I currently have and would be happy with any combination of the 3. What do you think should I keep looking and present my florist with more options or call it a day and give them only 3 pics?

"We believe colors can't clash"*

Yes Jonathan Adler you are speaking my language! I'm a color freak I mix it with abandonment and live by the mantra that done right no color can clash. Being the color freak that I am I spent a long time finding our perfect color inspiration and it finally came in the form of this little print by artist Charley Harper.


I love Charley Harper's prints, his amazing use of color and simplistic illustration make for beautiful bold statement. I first came across the work of Charley Harper and the Blackburnian Warbler illustration in my beloved Handmade Modern book. I loved the bright punch of color the unexpected combination of pool, chartreuse and orange and knew that I wanted to incorporate his work and this print into our wedding. The obvious choice for me was to use the print as the bases for our color scheme. To mellow out the 3 colors and to add a bit of masculinity we added in a slate gray and ta-da we had our wedding pallet!

I love our color pallet. All four color are are present in our daily lives whether it be in our wardrobe or interior design. It makes me happy to know that the color pallet we've decided on is very us and representative our own personal style.

Wondering Eye

I’m a fickle lover. I see something pretty and fall in love, that is until the next pretty pretty comes along and turns my head. For example take these lovelies-I first was introduced to these lovelies while browsing the In the Now Weddings blog. I loved the casualness of plastic flatware married with the formalness that the ornate pattern brings to them. Like the over eager lover that I am I feverishly began googling the bajesus out of these until I was able to track them down to 2 websites Horchow.com and modernlola.com. At about 3 bucks per place setting they were about double what we planned to spend on renting/buying flatware for the wedding but I was willing to splurge on these bad boys based on the little extra oomph they would give to our tablescape.

So there I was credit card in hand available funds in the bank account ready to drop over $150 bucks on some forks and knives and then I got the email. The email from my crack dealer Ticketmaster announcing that these guys would be in town…

A couple of mouse click and instead of fedex bringing me pretty pretty forks the Ticketmaster gods delivered 2 tickets to what J and I agree will be one epic concert. J thinks I’m just rationalizing my purchase by saying I will not purchase my beloved flatware in exchange for my tickets and that I will cave to lust. He’s also worried that I may have my priority’s a little skewed opting to go see a concert than make a wedding related purchase. To this I said that I would not sacrifice my quality of life for our wedding his response to this? His quality of life includes having a fab wedding….folks I think I may have a groomzilla on my hands!

I Die

Oh my Jesus...these decal and die cut acrylic chairs make my inner chair whore weep.

I could just see them playing a vital role in a modern Marie Antoinette themed wedding. Unfortunately I have a feeling you would need a wedding budget the size of Versailles to afford these lovelies so alas I must admire from afar.

I big puffy hearts love this head piece from Etsy seller AgnesHart.


Although my lazy ass hasn’t found the time to go dress shopping I’ve known for a very long time now that a big veil would not be in my cards. Instead my heart has been set on a chic little bird cage veil and this little veil of yumminess may just fit the bill. The price tag is making my wallet run and hide for cover but thanks to my Google reader i found this tutorial from the Lovely Casey at Casey Elegant Musingsand it just may be my ticket to my very own chic bird cage veil.

Can you just picture it? I’m seeing this little guy made in silk shantung with a little puff of French netting to help elevate the bridal cute factor. Oh heck yea this little guy is getting added to my to-do list….I’ll keep you posted on my progress…..once I actually make progress.

Day of the Dead love

This past weekend J and I on a whim found ourselves partaking in the Day of the Dead celebrations at Olivera Street in Downtown. For those who have never had the pleasure of spending some time at Olivera Street I highly encourage you to go. The street is not really that large, maybe a city block but it is jammed packed with vendors and yummy restaurants.

The Day of the Dead celebration was out of control incredible. The Mariachi bands playing were amazing and made me want to start revising our budget so we could afford hiring one one and all over the plaza there were these amazing alters dedicated to passed loved ones.



One of them even had a faux cake that was topped off with one of the best Day of the Dead cake toppers I have ever seen.




I was hoping to find a similar topper while we were there but unfortunately we were only able to find ones that look like this, and I'm not to sure that my catholic mother would approve.


Although I was unable to find a cake topper I didn't come home empty handed. This little guy is a print of Javier Ramos Lucano painting Juntos Hasta La Muerte ('till death do us part).


Although the illustration doesn't fit with the style and theme of our wedding I would love to some how incorporate it into our wedding. Any suggestions I'm thinking maybe thank you cards?
